Research revealed that Cyprus island stands as a gate to the rest of the Mediterranean from East to West, for the Lessepsian invasive alien species (IAS). Although many efforts to control several invasive alien species (IAS) have been carried out, success has not been obtained so far. Here, we propose the complete removal of two established IAS from two selected protected areas of different protection status in Cyprus. The implementation of the removal operation will continue through the project and a final assessment will be done to demonstrate the potential recolonization by native species filling similar niches. With the successful completion of the project, monitoring will be continued with a voluntary approach by the trained diving professionals.
