Through this project, Ceren Barlas led a series of small studies into marine plastics around Northern Cyprus and their impacts on sea turtle nesting conditions, while a series of awareness raising actions were undertaken.  Although the project was undertaken during the 2020 and 2021 pandemic years, surveys and beach cleans were undertaken across the coast, with more than three tonnes of plastic removed from beaches. Preliminary data suggested that surface beach macro plastics have a cooling effect on sea turtle nesting incubations, potentially buffering against the warming effect of climate change.
